Renowned entrepreneur adds to local vision as AOL expands presence in the region
AOL Platforms, a division of media technology company AOL, has expanded its commitment to Southeast Asia with the appointment of Carl Costa as Regional Business Lead.
In this new role Carl will introduce publishers to ONE by AOL, already the advertising platform of choice for many of the world’s largest brands, agencies, publishers and ad networks. ONE by AOL is an open, unified programmatic platform enabling marketers to optimise against campaign goals across all screens, formats and inventory types.
As well as adding to the level of inventory available, Carl will work to educate agencies and brands on the benefits of using the technology for programmatic buying. He will report to Alex Khan, Managing Director, AOL Platforms, Southeast Asia.
AOL Platforms has also beefed up its presence in Singapore with the appointment of Jane Sng who has joined the team from Amobee, to take on the role of Client Services Manager. Reporting to Khan, she will be responsible for providing clients with training, first level support and helping clients optimize campaigns.
Originally from the UK, Costa fits the innovative culture at AOL Platforms, with a background in launching new data-driven technologies. He was part of the initial management team at Enpocket, a mobile marketing business acquired by Nokia in 2005. He founded 24MAS, an ad-funded mobile gaming business and helped launch SongHi, a social, mobile music creation and gaming business.
Carl settled in Singapore in 2012, first as General Manager for StrikedAd, which provides real-time-bidding for mobile advertising, then as Director of Asia Pacific Growth Management at APGM, a consulting firm that assists technology businesses with their growth strategies. He has also helped with the launch of two local businesses: Stackla, a social content marketing platform; and Torque Data, an analytics tool for media buyers and marketers.
"Carl and Jane match our quest in bringing both culture and code to life through our investments in programmatic and video platforms," said Alex Khan, Managing Director Southeast Asia at AOL Platforms. "They both understand our technology, know the region and are sold on the opportunity. Together we are committed to providing brands, agencies and publishers with the best in class programmatic solutions across all platforms and the latest hires are a reflection of that.
“Furthermore APAC is expected to account for a third* of the world’s digital ad-spend this year, and an increasing proportion of that will be video,” says Alex Khan. “Advertisers will be seeking effective ways of buying inventory and to track effectiveness in real-time. We provide that solution, and we know Carl and Jane will do a great job helping to spread the message across the region.”
